Neurodiverse Counseling

Associate Therapist

September 2023 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I have enjoyed refining my skillset under the guidance of my supervisor, Mema Mansouri. It has been especially affirming and helpful to work at a private practice that is committed to the wellness of BIPOC, Queer, and Neurodiverse folks. Mema is always approachable, collaborative, and uplifting in her role as a supervisor. I am grateful that I have been encouraged to explore my clinical interests and interact with clients with authenticity. It has been fruitful to learn more about myself and my positionality as a social worker and clinician at Neurodiverse Counseling.

What I wish was different

As the practice serves many clients across the country, many clinicians are not based in Massachusetts. I wish there could've been more opportunity for case conferences or peer supervision.

Advice

Be open and candid about your interests and your growing edges! Mema is incredibly resourceful and kind when trying to meet your clinical and personal needs.

What I liked

I love that Neurodiverse Counseling LLC has given me the opportunity to truly improve my clinical skills. Mema is by far the best supervisor I have ever had. She is highly dedicated and thorough. She always prioritizes ensuring that her clinicians are respected, valued, and well taken care of. She makes her presence known every step of the way so that any clinician, whether new or seasoned, is aware they are not alone in this journey. The other clinicians are also very welcoming, always willing to share their own perspectives and unique experiences navigating this field of mental health. Having a position here at Neurodiverse Counseling LLC has surely set the bar high for what I would expect from any other future job position and/or employer.

Advice

One piece of advice that I would give about this experience is to normalize not knowing everything. We are all on this journey of life learning what we don't know. At Neurodiverse Counseling LLC, you are given the space to be human, which entails making mistakes and learning from them. Being in this position at this location gives you the freedom to grow into who you are as a clinician, rather than what the world expects clinicians to be, especially as it pertains to being a person of color in this field.
