About NCCU Human Sciences

The Department of Human Sciences offers competitive programs of study leading to Bachelor of Science degrees in Family and Consumer Sciences, Birth Through Kindergarten Teacher Education (B-K), and Family and Consumer Sciences Education. The Family and Consumer Sciences degrees offers specializations in: Child Development and Family Relations, Foods and Nutrition, and Textiles and Apparel Design. Experiential learning is utilized in each program to include diverse, multi-cultural, and interdisciplinary perspectives of family studies.

The graduate curriculum in Family and Consumer Sciences leads to a Master of Science Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. There are two areas of concentration in this program: Human Development and Family Studies and Nutritional Sciences. Courses for the Nutritional Sciences concentration are all offered online. The concentrations in Human Development and Family Studies and Textiles and Apparel have thesis and non-thesis (internship) options. The Nutritional Sciences concentration requires an internship. In addition, the department offers a Master of Science Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with graduate-level licensure for entering students who hold or qualify for an initial teaching license at the undergraduate level. The Licensure program requires preparation of a National Boards Certification Portfolio.
