MultiCare Health System

IT Security Intern

June - August 2023 • Tacoma, WA

What I liked

Working with tech from the perspective of a healthcare worker. Learning about IT security as it applies to the healthcare field. Learning about IT regulations and the audit workflow.

What I wish was different

I wish I worked on more software and tech components, I did not touch a line of code for the duration of the internship.

Advice

Be very open to new experiences. Sometimes you don't get the position you want right away, but being flexible and starting from a non-traditional standpoint can open up a lot of new opportunities.

SEED Intern - Case Management Intern

June - August 2023 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I really enjoyed working for MultiCare. This was a remote internship on their Case Management Education Team and I liked working with the team of social workers and nurses, it was a great way to gain experience in this field and learn about the different career options that are available in healthcare. Additionally, the managment was very clear and constructive, and I was given tasks to complete that were helpful and productive.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the option to work more in-person days, because I feel like I was able to bond with my team the most during the few in-person meetings we had, so it would have been nice to work together in person more.

Advice

I would say that even if you feel like an internship or job experience might not be exactly what you want to do in the future, if you get the opportunity you might as well go for it because it can be a learning experience and it is a great way to gain some new skills and connections. Going into this internship I was not sure I really wanted to work in healthcare, but now I learned how many different positions and jobs there are, so I'm more open to jobs like this in the future.
