MU

Undergraduate Researcher

May - September 2021 • Washington, DC

What I liked

It was a valuable learning experience to conceive and develop an independent research project that aligned with my field of academic and professional interest. I was able to expand my understanding of important issues in my field, while also exploring new areas of the city to which I had not been before.

What I wish was different

Unsurprisingly, being entirely responsible for developing and guiding the progress of a project can be difficult to manage. There were certainly aspects of this experience that I could have planned or managed more effectively.

Advice

Students should keep in mind that independent research affords a lot of freedom to pursue questions that will aid your academic and professional development. Students in the mentality of completing predetermined assignments can think more critically and creatively when working on independent research.

Sport Operations intern

September 2020 • Miami University, OH

What I liked

I love the experience with the job and how hands on it is. They actually put us in charge of things.

What I wish was different

Paid more.

Advice

It opens a lot of doors and gave me a lot of mentors. I would highly recommend getting an internship during school. The amount of work you put it will be the amount of gian you get out of the experience.
