MTF Biologics

Process Engineer Intern

June - August 2021 • Edison, NJ

What I liked

I loved everything about the company. It was a very tight-knit work community, and everyone was very helpful. Everyone at MTF Biologics strives to save and heal lives.

What I wish was different

I wouldn't change a thing about my experience.

Advice

Rather than being overwhelmed by the big picture, tackle each problem piece by piece. It's easy to get caught up in the task at hand when overwhelmed. This is why it is important to break each task into smaller ones.

Facilities Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • Edison, NJ

What I liked

I loved the culture. It never felt like a job. Every employee is so fun & will go out of their way to get to know you, even if you are only an intern. The CEO of the company is super invested in making sure all his employees are happy. There are lots of company parties & hangouts!

What I wish was different

I would have liked to work on the research & development team or in processing, as they are more relevant to my major.

Advice

Be open to talking to new people! Everyone at the company is very kind and helpful. They are very passionate about their open door policy. Don't be afraid to schedule 30-minute coffee breaks with colleagues in a position you're interested in.

R&D Engineering Intern

June - August 2018 • Edison, NJ

What I liked

Great work environment, open door policy is a plus. Very interesting projects with a lot of freedom to explore personal interests. Also conveyed great appreciation and understanding of the importance of organ and tissue donors.

What I wish was different

Project proposals by managers were somewhat unstructured, and managers often took too much of a hands off approach.

Advice

Definitely an invaluable experience for those interested in cell/tissue engineering. Location wise is in Edison, NJ, and so may require car to get anywhere.

Business Development Intern

June - August 2018 • Edison, NJ

What I liked

The culture and people were really amazing in helping me orient myself. I loved that I was given important tasks regardless of my title as an intern.

What I wish was different

The duration. 3 months felt incomplete and too short.

Advice

Carpe Diem. Time passes quickly in the transplantation world.

Quality Engineering Intern

June - August 2018 • Edison, NJ

What I liked

I enjoyed the atmosphere of the workplace. It was very focused on doing the best for the end user. Their expectations aren't too high where things become undeliverable, but they were still challenging nonetheless. Everyone at the workplace was extremely friendly and helpful; they were not hesitant about providing assistance and were proactive in those looking lost at the job (the building was very confusing). I also got the chance to work with a lot of people from differing departments and learned about their job function as well.

What I wish was different

I wish they had more work prepared. But as with most workplaces, projects come and go and timing is really important. I suppose they could set up projects or learning workshops there where full-time staff can provide insights and skills required for the specific job function, but a lot of that is already provided. There were very few moments when I had downtime so I had to take a lot more initiative to find work to do.

Advice

I think that asking around and looking for something to do, even not in your department (if allowed) is a great method of absorbing all channels of information. This allows someone to be a more well-rounded person and offering more networking opportunities within the company.
