Human Capital Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I really loved the supportive environment for all of the interns' professional development, whether they wished to stay in the field of financial services or not. My manager was absolutely amazing, and has become a mentor for me. She was very purposeful in making me, and the other interns, feel comfortable. The people are this firm are amazing, and fairly unique for the financial services field. You can approach all of them with any questions you may have - maybe about their own professional development - and they will sit-down with you to chat and grab coffee. Although I discovered that financial services was not the field for me, the mentors I found and professional opportunities that arose gave me a greater understanding of where my interests more likely lie.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to work longer hours and take on more responsibility. Due to the set salary schedule, I was unable to work many more hours, which created financial stress for me.

Advice

Communicate clearly and openly with your manager. Identify what motivates you in the work-space as this will not only help you, but also give your manager a deeper understanding for how you work and what you can be the most productive in.
