What I liked

The people I worked with at Mothers Without Borders were so friendly and fun to work with! I was interested in doing more nonprofit work and found my niche at Mothers Without Borders. Getting to travel to Zambia with an internship team in May was a highlight of my internship experience, but there really is a place for everyone at Mothers Without Borders.

There really isn't anything I wish would've been different. I had what I would consider the perfect internship experience.

Graphic Design Intern

January - August 2019 • Provo, UT

What I liked

I loved interning with Mothers Without Borders. I worked as a graphic designer and content creator for Mothers Without Borders. I was able to design their annual report, create promotional and informational flyers as well as design the materials for their annual donor appreciation event. Additionally, I was able to design and create a display booth where I incorporated my public health education into my internship. I taught over 500 event attendees about the organization's programs and growth and shared my own personal experiences with the program. I had the unique chance to go to Zambia with the organization and participate in community outreach as part of my internship! Overall I loved my time at Mothers Without Borders and would highly recommend working with this organization to any future interns. It is an amazing environment and every member of the staff is so helpful and encouraging. I was able to work independently on projects and develop leadership skills; as well as regularly work with members of the team to find ways to grow as a team and organization.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have been more involved in some of the program planning aspects of the organization. However; my supervisor Tanner was always great about checking on how I was doing and what I wanted to be involved in. I was able to be a part of many of these efforts and there were always opportunities to grow into these efforts. I only wish my schedule allowed me to stay longer to take advantage of all of the opportunities he offered.

Advice

My advice would be to take initiative! Working in a small nonprofit organization gives you the opportunity to really try new things and be involved at all levels of the organization—but you have to be willing to stretch yourself and take the initiative.
