Software Quality Assurance Intern

June - August 2019 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

They treated interns as full time employees. You are doing the same work as them instead of trivial "intern tasks"

What I wish was different

Nothing. This was an ideal internship and I could not have asked for a better opportunity.

Advice

Work hard and network as much as possible. Moody's offers a wide variety of future careers and they try to hire their interns full time

Product Management Intern

June - August 2019 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

I had the opportunity of working as a member of an agile team. The projects I was able to work on were happening in real time, which made me feel that the work I did held real value. I had mentors who helped me develop my skills over the length of the internship that I will carry forward to my future endeavors. My internship at MA was everything I hoped for and more, and reflected exactly the kind of real-world experience I was searching for in product management.

What I wish was different

My position, by nature, allowed me to work cross-functionally. This allowed me to see the larger scope and context of my work. I understand from other interns that in a past year's internship, as part of the internship the interns met with employees from different functional areas to learn how their positions all fit together in the context of the software development process. I think that's a great idea, especially for interns in roles that may by nature be more isolated (e.g., QA/software dev intern roles).

Advice

Come with an open mind, and ask questions. There are so many people here who can teach you so much. Throughout my internship, other employees and team members were always ready to help me find answers to my questions or learn about something I was interested in. My team members and mentors were very skilled at giving me enough direction to approach a challenge and be able to confidently apply myself and develop understanding. I felt valued, especially as an intern. If you come here with a passion to learn, that passion will be rewarded.

Data Analyst Intern

June - August 2017 • West Chester, PA

What I liked

I was a fan of how helpful other people were in my department if my manager were unavailable, assisting me through any programming difficulties I had. Another thing that I liked about my experience was how a lot of changes were made, according to previous interns, in order to make the internship a better experience. Some of these changes included weekly conference calls where interns watched slide shows to learn more about the company and were also given mentors in order to learn more about different roles in the company as well.

What I wish was different

Despite having the mentor program, it was still difficult to fully understand what a role in a different department had consisted of. Another thing that I wish were different was the size of the office with my manager only giving me a recommendation for a different office since the one in West Chester had very little room for growth.

Advice

Be patient and never think you can apply to too many places. I had sent a lot of applications for internships through handshake and linkedin, yet I was able to find this internship through a job posting my professor had emailed me and other economics majors.
