Monterey Bay Aquarium

Administrative Resource Coordinator

June - August 2019 • Monterey, CA

What I liked

Great experience to grow into a position and work as part of an amazing team! Learned a lot of new skills and am grateful for the opportunity.

What I wish was different

More opportunities to network in other departments besides the one I was hired into.

Advice

Go in knowing what you want to get out of it and communicate that clearly with managers at beginning of summer.

Bilingual Education Specialist

November 2015 • Monterey, CA

What I liked

Inspiring youth through hands-on and outdoor activities, helping them develop leadership skills and a sense of agency, and mentoring teen leaders.

What I wish was different

Better pay.

Advice

Negotiate pay, even if you think you don't deserve it yet - your schooling is highly valuable. Even if it wasn't your major or intended outcome job, you can learn anything and adapt quickly after a masters degree. Limits are not real and should be questioned continually.

Membership Sales Associate

May - August 2018 • Monterey, CA

What I liked

This was a great working environment where every employee is cared for and appreciated. Everyone is relaxed and helpful and it was easy to work well. Our training was top-level, and we received as much help as we needed to do our job to our fullest potential.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more variety with my job, but other than that it was very enjoyable and there are very few things I wish to be different.

Advice

It is easy to get off track and lose motivation with this position, but if you work hard to develop strategies and techniques, your job performance will rise greatly. You will also have a more positive experience if you put in the time and effort.
