About Modern Woodmen of America

Modern Woodmen exists to improve quality of life for our members and the communities where they live, work and play. We do this through financial guidance and social, educational and volunteer activities.

New to fraternals?

It's true: we're unique! So, what is a fraternal financial services organization? it means we ...

- Offer families financial security through life insurance, retirement planning and financial services.
- Support community improvement through local volunteer projects that make an impact where our members live

We offer employment opportunities throughout the country in our regional offices or at our home office in Rock Island, IL.

We've been touching lives and securing futures since 1883 and our 1,600 representatives currently serve more than 750,000 members nationwide. We can help you make a local impact. It's how we do business.

THE VISION BEHIND OUR NAME
We have no woodworking in our history. No cabinet making. No lumberjacks.

Our name was inspired by pioneer woodmen. They cleared forests to build homes and communities and provide security for their families. Modern Woodmen’s founder, Joseph Cullen Root, felt this was the perfect symbol to illustrate his goal of clearing away financial burdens for families.

On Jan. 5, 1883, Modern Woodmen of America was born in Lyons, Iowa. We moved across the Mississippi River to Fulton, Illinois, in 1884. Our home office relocated downriver to Rock Island, Illinois, in 1897. Rock Island remains our home office hometown to this day.

WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT A MODERN WOODMEN CAREER?
Touching lives. Securing futures.® is more than Modern Woodmen’s tagline. It’s part of a unique culture that puts people first.

Our people matter. And we know each employee – from our home office staff to our financial representatives across the country – plays an important role in improving members’ lives.

Modern Woodmen home office employees and financial representatives have passion and purpose. They believe in what they do. And they’re rewarded with excellent benefits, flexibility and friendships that last a lifetime.
