I enjoyed the independent research and the opportunity to join meetings and learn about things I had true interests in, as it related to the work. The staff was also amazing, and I would be more than happy to work with them all again!
What I wish was different
I wish I could have gone into the office, I definitely felt like I was missing out on networking and connection building as I did work from home.
Advice
The experience is very much what you put into it. Take the opportunity to go to meetings, ask questions, and make connections. You can fly under the radar, as there is so much work and so many people collaborating, but if you engage and excel past expectations, then you will have a great experience.

Special Investigation Unit Intern

What I liked
My remote internship with MDAO offered me the opportunity to assist ADAs and paralegals examining evidence related to case preparation and legislative initiatives as part of the Special Investigation Unit team. Along with hours of training sessions, the opportunity to view a Recovery Court session showed me a side of the legal world which is not often televised or showcased in case textbooks—the manner in which lawyers help individuals better themselves through treatment, trust, and camaraderie.
What I wish was different
Advice
There is heavy emphasis placed on the interview process. If you have an interview, come prepared and knowledgable about the office and the legal world of prosecutors. Have answers for typical interview questions, but also be prepared for unusual questions which require introspection on your personal experiences.

Elder/Disabled Persons Protection Unit Intern

What I liked
I absolutely loved the entire experience I had with the district attorney's office. I was an intern assigned to the elder and disabled persons protection unit and primarily assisted an ADA and paralegal within the unit at the Woburn office. At least once every two weeks I would be able to sit in court with the unit staff and watch my ADA make her arguments. I could not have asked for a better staff to work for in the office and found that every attorney, paralegal, advocate, administrative staff member, and police officer I spoke with were kind, calm, professional, and understanding. Especially being an undergraduate student who only had taken one or two law classes before beginning the internship, I found that the staff would educate me on how certain cases would be prosecuted, what certain motions meant, and how cases would be organized and dealt with.

I liked how I was immersed in the daily job of ADAs. I was trusted to perform a lot of tasks on my own that have helped ADAs prepare cases for court.

I wish I visited other courts to compare them from the court I was placed in.

Law Practice

What I liked
I enjoy almost all assignments I had. Writing legal documents can be challenging but fun. Doing legal researches trained me to be able to find and use different resources such as LexisNexis, West Law, Google Scholar, and Hein Online comfortably. I also love attending different pieces of training such that I learned about many aspects of this office other than Asset forfeiture. In addition, I received sufficient supervision and feedback regarding the work I was assigned from my supervisor Paris Daskalakis. Paris is polite, respectful, knowledgeable, helpful, resourceful, and critical in a good way. I like almost everything I did this summer in this office.

Do some research before applying and know which department you want to work under and who to work for!

Victim Witness Advocate Intern

What I liked
I liked how hands on the experience was. We attended a lot of field trips and workshops through the program that gave the interns a picture of what work in public service or work in law. I went to District Court every day and was able to see and interact with victims, judges, lawyers, and those charged with a crime. It really is a hands on experience instead of a desk job.
What I wish was different
Being a college student and not a law student, it was hard to get permission to have certain responsibilities. I did not have the same access as law students because I did not have the same knowledge as 303 law students.
Advice
I would recommend taking advantage of all of the opportunities offered in this internship. The District Attorney's Office offers a lot of workshops and excursions for the interns, and there are a lot of day to day activities and opportunities that I learned a lot from.

Legal Intern

What I liked
I was often able to go to court with my supervisors and sit in on trials. I was also given actual legal work that my supervisors would do themselves rather than simple intern work which was very interesting. Tasks were always varying so I got so much experience throughout the summer.
What I wish was different
One thing I wish I had done differently was to apply into a specific area of the DA's office such as one of the district courts or the child protection unit.
Advice
The Middlesex DA's office had a lot of opportunities for trainings that were awesome and I recommend any intern takes advantage of all of the available trainings. For example, they offered a police office tour and a prison tour, mock trials, detecting OUI driver training, a behind the scenes of a murder trial session and others.
