Michelin

Industrial Process Engineering Intern

May 2023 • Tuscaloosa, AL

What I liked

You can move jobs easily and they have great career development opportunities.

What I wish was different

I wish I had some more experience on the floor, but if you were really pursuing that, they would work with you.

Advice

Networking will be your best friend. That’s the main reason I was considered other than work ethic. Also, working with operators will teach you the most about why you’re there and your roles.

Quality Specialist

May - August 2019 • Ardmore, OK

What I liked

I love the opportunity to grow professionally — the project challenged me to apply statistical analysis on daily data. I had to communicate with my manager and peers effectively. The team was amicable and always found the time to guide me through a specific process in the factory that I did not know. Also, Michelin wanted to create a long-term relationship with their interns, so after the internship, Michelin asked me to become an ambassador at Prairie View A&M University and offered a second internship for summer 2020.

What I wish was different

At the beginning of the internship, I did not ask many questions because I believe that active listening was the key to perform an excellent job. However, during the mid-term of the internship, having an open mind, I found out that it is a combination of many skills. Skills that I have to practice and continue to learn through experiences from problem-solving techniques. So, communicating effectively with the team was the best resource to complete my project successfully. I wish I could of break out my shell and asked as many questions since the first day.

Advice

Although students are attending an internship, it is expected to use many skills. I would tell them not to be nervous about asking questions because the team will always be there to help them. Also, ask questions from other departments; it has a significant impact on the understanding of the project. Interns will make connections to the impact of the project. Spend extra time to know the different processes of the company's product.

Sales Intern

May - August 2018 • Greenville, SC

What I liked

Extensive travel, freedom, and family like environment. I was able to travel all across the US and meet with key stakeholders in my project whether that be current Michelin employees, Michelin's dealers, or the end consumer. Had support from my supervisor but also a lot of freedom to do what I needed for the project

What I wish was different

All of your projects are independent of other interns. I would have liked to spend more time by sharing projects with other interns and working on it together.

Advice

Incredible experience. Meet as many employees as you can. Talk to them and learn from them. Request to travel to meet people and execute your assignment when needed.

Sales Intern

May - August 2018 • Greenville, SC

What I liked

Good pay, very good relocation package, fun experiences.

What I wish was different

This isn't a sales internship, it's more of a general business internship. If you're looking to either get into the tire or automotive industry or get business experience, this is great. If you're looking for sales experience, I would not recommend it.

Advice

This is good, general internship. The company will invest in you and let you shadow whatever you may want and let you travel. Just know it's a general internship and you will not get any sales experience.

Ecommerce Marketing Intern

May - August 2017 • Greenville, SC

What I liked

Friendliness of coworkers. Got to work on real world projects. Lots of interns present. Great activities outside of work (like community service and food truck rallies). Got to do some travel outside of Greenville, but Greenville is also a great location.

What I wish was different

I would have loved to visit an actual Tire Plant to be able to put that information to use in the marketing I was doing.

Advice

Invite your coworkers and other people from other departments out to coffee; they would all be willing to speak with you!
