What I liked

My internship at Mercy Corps was extremely fulfilling as my supervisor tailored the internship to my interests and career aspirations! During my first week, we wrote down projects and tasks I wanted to complete by the end of my internship, so now I have a number of impressive deliverables I can present to future employers. I learned so much about international development and humanitarian aid and my team was extremely supportive and welcoming.

What I wish was different

Having knowledge of global affairs, international relations, and/or international development prior to the internship will be very helpful!

What I liked

There is lots of flexibility within my internship to focus on my own interests or in areas where I would like to learn more! Everyone has been very welcoming and really seems to care about my growth.

What I wish was different

I wish I lived closer to Portland to be able to work in person more often! The Mercy Corps office is amazing and the work environment seems very positive and motivating.

Advice

There are so many different facets to MC- so don't be afraid to explore and learn more about other departments/offices/areas/sectors outside of your internship.
