Mercury Systems, Inc.

Data Analyst Intern

March 2022 • Upper Saddle River, NJ

What I liked

I appreciated the fact that this particular experience included generating reports on best practices using data mining, analysis, and visualization methods. It allowed for a deep dive into data and provided an opportunity to leverage insights for decision-making. Additionally, collaborating closely with management and users to gather requirements and foster strong working relationships was a positive aspect, as it ensured that the data-driven solutions were aligned with the needs of the organization.

What I wish was different

I wish the role had been more autonomous and had more decision-making authority. While collaborating with management and users was valuable, there were times when it would have been beneficial to have more control over decision-making processes. In addition, enhancing expertise in data mining and analysis would have been enhanced through greater professional development opportunities.

Advice

In a similar role, I would recommend prioritizing effective communication and relationship-building skills. Understanding the needs of management and users, translating them into actionable insights, and conveying complex data findings in a clear, understandable manner are all components of working closely with management and users. Additionally, continuously seek opportunities for professional development to stay updated with the latest data mining, analysis, and visualization techniques, which will not only benefit your current position but also your long-term career development.
