McDonald's

What I liked

Co-Workers, Customers, Managers

What I wish was different

If equipment didn't break down as often, especially since I'm usually the one asked to fix it, since I know how If I got paid more, since I do a lot of extra work there

Advice

Great for a first-time job, and, if the managers are good, the work environment is good and all, just don't expect it to be a career unless you go into management

McDonald's Employee

June 2018 • Crown Point, IN

What I liked

I liked working with my coworkers. I was a closer, so the days I closed I usually saw the same people, and all of them were really hard working and willing to put in the time and effort to get their job done. I also saw that the hard work that I put in paid off and I was able to get a raise rather quickly because of it.

What I wish was different

I wish I wasn't always working closing shifts, but that's where I was needed the most. There's also the difficulty of being able to constantly control my temper because customer service can be very difficult to handle, which depends on the day to day basis of how rough it can be.

Advice

I would say that showing reliability and responsibility in your work ethics, plus showing that you can put in the necessary effort to get things done, will be what sets you apart from the rest. Most people in this line of work are students just trying to do their job, which often means that they aren't giving their all and doing the bear minimum. So it wouldn't be hard to win the approval of your superiors with just working your heradest every day.

What I liked

It was always busy which helped time to go fast. I was lucky to work with some quality funny and caring people.

What I wish was different

I wish management was more trained/serious about their job.

Advice

Don't shut a job opportunity out just because of what you've heard about it. Everyone starts somewhere.

What I liked

I loved the people I worked with, and enjoyed an active while also fast-paced job for a change.

What I wish was different

I wish I made more money, that it didn't take so long to train me, and that it would involve less cleaning.

Advice

Don't be afraid to take a minimum wage job if you have nothing better to do, it's easy to make long lasting relationships on any job, and that you can have fun doing something that sounds unappealing at first.

Fast Food Service

May - August 2018 • Aurora, CO

What I liked

Convenient placement, right across the street from my house, and managed by the same franchise owners as the McDonald's I work at in Greeley. I was able to work full time on hours that I chose, and got to meet a lot of great people.

What I wish was different

As with a lot of retail jobs, experience with management and customers can be negative at times.

Advice

Don't dismiss retail or even fast food work so quickly, you can get a lot of hours on a flexible schedule, and can learn a lot of valuable skills applicable in other fields.

What I liked

I liked the environment and the people I got to work with, I have formed relationships there that will last a lifetime

What I wish was different

How it was managed and probably the amount of drama that was in the workplace

Advice

Go in with a positive attitude and just be there to do your job, care less about other people's opinion about you, just don't say negative things about anyone

What I liked

The best part about the job was the people I worked with, they are a great team and have become some of my closest friends.

What I wish was different

Management didn't always see eye to eye with each other, and some crew would be put in tough situations between managers.

Advice

Don't make fast food a career, its a great learning experience on how to deal with difficult people and you will work with some great people. It was a good way to save up money because they will give you a lot of hours if you work well, but always strive for something better.
