What I liked

My favorite part about working at Starmark, a MasterBrands Cabinet company, was working early 6:30am till 3:00pm. This made it feel like I had time after work to enjoy the weekdays instead of just the weekends. Along with this I also truly enjoyed the partner/team styled work. There has never been another job I have done where teamwork was relied on so heavily. The final piece I enjoyed was how much the safety was regulated and enforced. There was monthly safety topics along with discussions constantly about the safety of each and every employee.

What I wish was different

Something that could have been improved is the fact that the job is very physically demanding on certain parts of the line. Specifically where I was employed there was a good amount of lifting which was difficult after the 120th cabinet of the day weighing around 50lbs.

Advice

A piece of advice I would give to someone interested is to check whether or not your position requires lifting. If it does I would recommend practicing lifting techniques and getting a head start before you start. This will help ease you in unlike myself who truly struggled the first week or so from bad posture and no lifting experience.

What I liked

MBCI has an extensive mandatory training program which is highly focused on job/employee safety.

What I wish was different

Particular pieces of equipment often broke down or malfunctioned, requiring a pause in the production process. New equipment might be the best solution.

Advice

Be sure to be of use. There will be times when you have nothing to do due to a lull in production; in this time, get ahead at your own station or help someone else to do so at his or hers.

Channel Marketing Intern

What I liked

The office culture was friendly, and the work was challenging. I felt as if I was a contributing member and less of a student.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to continue to creat social media and also wish I could say in on more team meetings to better understand what is happening.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to ask for more work and make sure to prioritize which projects are needing to get done on team pace.
