Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus

Political Analyst Intern

May - September 2021 • Boston, MA

What I liked

The internship program offered the opportunity to get hands-on experience in the field. Unlike at some organizations whose internships are just busywork, I felt that I was actually learning and contributing.

What I wish was different

Advice

Take the initiative to ask to get on more projects, sit in on more meetings, etc.

Campaign Intern

June - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I enjoyed how my internship entailed a lot of different experiences. For example, I was in charge of helping 6 campaigns, I wrote blog posts, I worked on social media for the MWPC, etc. Having a diverse work schedule is something that I really enjoy and I fit in well with the way that the MWPC did things.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been a little more structure and organization. I came in when the MWPC was going through replacing their ED and VED so it was chaotic at times. There was also too many interns for one summer for the amount of work we did. Cutting it back would've made the experience better.

Advice

I would say to not go into it with any expectations, since they tend to put you where they need you most days rather than having you work on what you applied to do. For example, I said that I wanted to help them plan their events, but instead I often was expected to do office work which is not what was advertised. I still had a great summer and did a lot of cool stuff, but I wish I knew that it wasn't going to be as structured as I would have liked.
