Maritz

Enterprise Application Systems Intern

May 2019 • Fenton, MO

What I liked

Being able to see how accounting systems work in a real world setting. You can only see so much in test environments and classroom exercises.

What I wish was different

The flow of tasks would be up and down. When you are expected to be there for a limited amount of time people are wary of giving you long term tasks. With an offer of employment I’ve been given some more responsibility.

Advice

Be open to all the opportunities of an internship and don’t be afraid to volunteer your time when a task comes up.

Behavioral Science Intern

July - August 2018 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I liked that I got to work from home but was able to travel to the Maritz headquarters in St. Louis to meet with the team. I enjoyed completing my marketplace assessment of Maritz's competitors' use of behavioral science because it allowed me to further understand the field. I also enjoyed presenting with the team at a conference in Anaheim.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to start earlier, but I was unable to as I studied abroad. I also wish my manager had been more organized as it would've encouraged me to work through more.

Advice

For anyone else interested in working at Maritz, it's not the same type of culture as I am used to here on campus. If you want to work on something, you'll need to do it yourself. There were several times I walked out of meetings feeling that there were no action items for me or anyone else on the team to accomplish before the next meeting.
