Being a summer intern at Latham Centers was a great experience and introduction into social care work. I really enjoyed being with the kids at Latham. Additionally, there is a tight knit group of co-workers and mentors to help guide interns through the experience.
What I wish was different
The job was very emotionally taxing at times.
Advice
I think this can be a really rewarding summer experience, but I would advise applicants to be honest with themselves about the type of work they are able to handle.

Mentally, it is draining, and you need to make sure to balance out work and home. It is important to not take the work home, and distance yourself from the kids as best you can.

Advice
Working at Latham is incredibly hard, but it's even more rewarding. You need to have tough skin to do this job, but it is worth it. You will learn a lot about yourself and become a more empathetic person.
