Working at a family owned restaurant was a very humbling experience. All of the recipes were homemade and delicious, and I could tell how much this restaurant was a place for the community to gather, with some regulars coming in every single day. It was clean, organized and professional. They were a very welcoming family and I was so happy to meet them!
What I wish was different
I wish they had trained me a little more, I was kind of expected me to know how to prep, cook and serve a lot of the food. I learned quickly on my own, but there wasn't a lot of structure in the learning process. However they were always helpful and willing when I had questions!
Advice
Working in the kitchen isn't the worst thing, especially if it's a nicer restaurant like this. I still don't think I'd work in a fast food restaurant, but I thought I'd get tired of looking at and smelling the food in any kitchen. I was wrong! Shifts go by quickly and you keep your hands busy.
