King George County, known as the Gateway to Virginia’s Northern Neck – a peninsula bounded by the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers – King George County in the eastern part of the commonwealth was formed in 1720 and sits roughly two hours southeast of the nation’s capital. Named after England’s King George I, it is the birthplace of Founding Father James Madison and has been a historically rural community. King George County is 183 miles of natural beauty, cultural diversity and historic wealth. Currently, the county has approximately 26,000 citizens.
