JPMorganChase

Project Coordinator

August 2021 - December 2023 • Plano, TX

What I liked

I loved how much hands on experience I gained through many challenging projects. I was trusted with the autonomy to get the work done and also got to help hundreds of people!

What I wish was different

It would've been more helpful if I had an assigned mentor to help me get adjusted to the new atmosphere of the corporate world.

Advice

Feedback is encouraged here, and even expected. Make sure to write all of your accomplishments down and gather feedback from your peers and manager so that you are prepared to have a great review and hopefully an offer.

Intern

January 2023 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The team and environment at JPMC in NYC is like no other. We were given the opportunity to work on a code that will benefit the Chase bank website and had all the help we needed when we became stuck. Being at the company opened doors to so many resources and mentors.

What I wish was different

I wish our project was given to us in an easier format to understand it better but we had help from all around.

Advice

Network and get to know as many employees as you can. During the internship many meetings were set up to chat with employees with high status and take those opportunities to ask questions and leave a great impression incase you decide to apply for a full time job and need recommenders!

intern

June - August 2023 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I really enjoyed the 10 week internship program in the heart of the city. It was a priceless experience because the senior leaders of the firm made themselves very accessible. I was able to network at all levels of the firm and I felt that was the most valuable part. To hear from industry professionals on how they got into the space and why they are so passionate about their careers was so important for me. They made me realize I am passionate about finance and am on the right path for my professional career. Along with breaking stigmas of how the internal culture is way better then the outside wall street makes it seem.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to talk to more professionals on different parts of the business for example our private bank interns are people I didn't have the opportunity to connect with as much.

Advice

I would say be yourself is the best piece of advice I can give because I know that's what landed me the full time offer. A GPA can only get you in the door but people want to work with people they like so show your personality be open to feedback and be willing to work hard and sacrifice.

Advancing Black Pathways Fellow

June - July 2022 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I enjoyed meeting with senior employees and learning about their passions in addition to their path of career mobility within JP Morgan. We also learned a lot about different positions at JP Morgan and how they contribute differently in helping JP Morgan along with their targeted communities in flourishing economically.

What I wish was different

Although we had a great opportunity in that we were able to work in offices of JP Morgan Chase, most of the days required joining zoom calls and so I wish there was more in-person interactions that happened.

Advice

Be open to networking and meeting new people! Step outside of your comfort zone!

Middle Market Banking and Specialized Indutries

June - August 2022 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I liked the exposure to working in corporate America and this opportunity gave me an insight into what career paths I could potential explore

What I wish was different

Even though they did not have enough space within the Chicago office for analysts for the next year, I wish they would have referred me to a different office if they did like my performance

Advice

I was able to create a network and make new friends with the 2 summers that I spent at JPMorgan Chase, and I would say absorb as much as you can about the company, learn everything that is being taught to you about the specific role you play at the bank, and always ask questions when needed

I loved the culture and the people at Chase the most. Everyone is willing to help and make you feel as comfortable as possible. Entering a big firm can be very overwhelming, but personally. the people and the network I created made it easier.

What I wish was different

Nothing!

Advice

I would advise anyone looking to enter this company to do minimal research on the firm, what they offer, and how your role integrates with the larger picture. As a Marketing major, entering a bank was scary but doing the extra research helped significantly.

Software Engineer

June - August 2021 • Tampa, FL

What I liked

Everyone at the workplace was friendly and always made availability to meet and talk about anything you were interested in. Managers scheduled several sessions of professional development for interns. I was able to complete a meaningful project by the end of the summer which is still being used by other development teams and became more proficient in agile development practices.

What I wish was different

Settings up our virtual machines and development environment took a few days. This is being improved upon but can still be better.

Advice

If you are curious about a specific topic, language, development platform, etc., take the time to find someone in the company who is an expert at it and talk to them about it. Someone you know will be able to connect you and they are always happy to schedule a meeting to talk (especially with interns).
