Commercial Bank Analyst

June - August 2019 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I loved sharpening my analytical skills. I was given projects and case studies to work on throughout the summer. Through these projects, I learned about businesses from the ground up, how banks loan money and also make money, and how to financially advice businesses that are starting out to big Fortune 500 corporate companies.

What I wish was different

I only wish that there was little more training for non-finance majors. It was assumed that everyone had an accounting and finance background.

Advice

Network, work hard, and take in all opportunities.

Summer Analyst

June - August 2019 • Indianapolis, IN

What I liked

I loved the people that I worked with and their willingness to help you and how much they want you to succeed. My office and the environment was so good. I learned so much and loved everyday of it.

What I wish was different

I wish sometimes that joining the career isn't as competitive as it is because I would try to get stuff to do sometimes so that I put myself ahead of others. I would grab work when I needed it and didn't have any but I always felt pressure to take work even if I was busy.

Advice

I would share that the time commitment is a lot and it is hard work. If you're looking for an easy job or a job with more rigid hours, it's not this one. With that said, the work I did I loved greatly and if finance is what you want to go into, wealth management should be an avenue you consider

Equity Research Intern

May - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

It was a real project that my analyst took over after I left. I had a summer long project that I was responsible for that reflected what I would be doing if I returned full time. I learned so much on the job that I only got brief exposure to in classrooms. I sat in management meetings with CEOs and CFOs of Fortune 500 companies and also had the opportunity to network with senior leaders across all lines of business within the firm.

What I wish was different

A little more focused training in the beginning versus a broader training for all the interns because my program was really specific.

Advice

Think of the entire summer as a learning experience and try to absorb as much as you can. It's normal to be overwhelmed with the amount of work you are given, so try to learn best practices from analysts and past summer interns.
