Counseling Intern
September 2019 • Orem, UT
What I liked
I liked being able to explore the world of a school counselor. The counselors were very helpful and fun to work with. It helped me narrow down what I want to do with my degree.
What I wish was different
I wish they could have trained me more before asking me to work with kids who were struggling with mental health. There were also so many interns that they forgot what they had trained me in, so being sure of what I needed to do was a little stressful at times, but I also grew a lot through it.
Advice
Don’t be afraid to jump in and help. They’ll throw you in before you’re ready anyway. Take the first step!

What I liked
I love my job! I enjoy working with kids one-on-one and in small groups, and the school environment is fun! I get to be around teachers, who are some of the best people in the world, and I get to feel like I'm actually helping people with my work. I'm getting training from fantastic professionals who also love their work, and I'm learning so much from them. I love that I get to learn by doing!
