Rehab Technician

August 2019 • East Lansing, MI

What I liked

I like the flexibility because I was originally an on-call worker where I decided when I worked weekly

What I wish was different

I wish I got even more extensive training to accommodate any situation since the patients change regularly

Advice

Get healthcare experience, here or elsewhere!

Rehabilitation technician

July 2020 • Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

I loved the experience building relationships with the consumers we served.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more COVID-19 support for the residents. It became emotionally taxing on staff when consumers were experiencing mental health issues as a result of being quarantined for months longer than the rest of the state.

Advice

Get out of your comfort zone and take shifts at different houses. That way you learn how to do care routines for more people.

What I liked

I enjoyed the experiences I had interacting with residents. I learned how to run group therapy sessions as well as how to pass medications.

What I wish was different

I don't have anything that I would have done differently.

Advice

Be open to listening and learning from your fellow co workers and residents.

Rehab Technician

January 2019 • Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

I liked the ability to experience different aspects of health care while at the same time improving my own skills as a future health care provider. I got to assist people on their rehab journey and I saw some amazing miracles take place for those who defied the odds and overcame life-changing challenges.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a more concrete schedule so I didn't have to struggle to get hours by picking up shifts. Although I was thankful for the ability to do so and pay bills, I struggled to establish a solid sleep schedule and conduct stem cell research with a Dr. Geenen of the GVSU PA program.

Advice

Be open to any new experiences life may offer you. Just because it may not be the most popular path doesn't mean that you cannot receive amazing benefits from it!
