I was trusted with many interactive tasks and was immediately a part of the company.
What I wish was different
I wish there had been more organization for intern projects.
Advice
If you have extra work you can bring with you, do. But also get as involved with the company as you can. The employees are interesting, experienced, and great resources.

Communications and Outreach Intern
May - September 2017 • Pittsburgh, PA
What I liked
The Outreach Director, Susy, was super cheerful and nice and always had something different and interesting going on that I could come along for and help with and learn about. The Communications Director, Angelica was super knowledgeable about communications and sharp as a tack.
What I wish was different
Summer is probably not the best time to learn from the Communications aspect of the internship because I missed out on the chance to participate in the holiday drive - which is a major part of any nonprofit.
Advice
Ask for stuff to do and ask to go along with people as they do their work. Be the one to take the initiative. They're all more than happy to tell you what they're into but they can get too busy to initiate bringing you into the fold.

Volunteer
July - August 2018 • Pittsburgh, PA
What I liked
I enjoyed getting to help children from very underprivileged backgrounds and use my interest in psychology to gain insight into their behaviors and behavioral issues that arise from trauma.
What I wish was different
That it could be more ongoing so I did not have to leave the children.
Advice
It is important to understand the reasoning behind misbehavior and to consider this when dealing with disciplinary actions.
