Getting my foot in the door of working in a medical setting and being able to see what home healthcare entailed. It was also very nice to create relationships with elders who otherwise did not have much social contact.
What I wish was different
I wish the management had been more open with the clients as well as with us. It felt that nobody communicated and many times I walked in on incidents that I should have known ahead of time. Also I felt pressured to work more often than my availability. I felt manipulated into taking shifts.
Advice
Focus on you and the client. It is important to create a safe space between you both and they will love you being yourself. You don't have to put on an act or pretend to be a knight in shining armor. They love the company and as long as you are yourself the time spent with them makes it that much more worth it to you and them.

What I liked
I loved how much the company cared about their clients and staff. I felt so appreciated in this position. They are so uunderstanding and made sure I felt comfortable in this role. I could always call and ask questions. I loved the client I worked with and got very close with her. I’m glad I was able to get so close to the clients and help them the best I could.
What I wish was different
I wish the clients would have been closer in my area (Johnston) instead of Waukee and Clive
Advice
To always show up with a positive attitude. The clients look up to the caregivers, so we need to be respectful and passionate about what we do. This position was so rewarding and I’m so happy I found this job.
