PCA for kids wiht disabilities
October 2017 • Winona, MN
What I liked
How flexible it was (scheduling and activities on shift). Yes, the kids require some adaptation, but if you are willing to work around those, it is an extremely rewarding job. Going to parks, swimming at the pool, picnics by the lake, rollerblading, bike riding, and more really made my summer! My coworkers were also great. WE work pretty closely over the summer and you get to know some great people.
What I wish was different
I wish I got paid a little more. As bad as it may sound, PCA's do not make enough for the amount of work they do and the hours they put in. Especially over the summer when staffing is lacking. That being said, loving the work I do really makes up for it and HCO is great at compensating for expenses when needed.
Advice
Be open and engaging! Don't be afraid to let out your inner child and really devote yourself to your work. You will have a better time and the kids will love it!
