I had the privilege to work at the Louisville KY location, where Goodwood brews its beer for all its locations. This allowed me to work directly with the product from beginning to end. During my time at Goodwood, I was responsible for daily production and safety throughout the brewery. I was able to learn a lot about the brewing process as well as the craft beer community as a whole.
What I wish was different
One thing I wish was different from my internship was that I was unable to visit the other locations Goodwood has across the Midwest. My position required me to stay within the Louisville location to continue the beer-making process. Moreover, I wish I had more time to experiment with the recipes of the core products to create a small-batch brew. However, due to the busy nature of the brewery, there was not enough time to accomplish this.
Advice
Be proactive when it comes to the brewing process. There is a lot to learn in beer-making and the 3 months I spent at Goodwood was not enough time for me to learn everything. If time allows it, research different types of beers, hops, or grains as every little step within the process can greatly affect the final product. This also applies to the steps taken during the process. If you have little or no experience in the beer industry, then be sure to understand each step and action as they are all important to the quality of the product as well
