What I liked

The best part about this internship is the people you meet and the opportunities you have! The other interns that I lived and worked with are friends that I will keep up with for life and the GO staff are encouraging and super resourceful! You have so many opportunities to learn new skills, languages, and try new leadership roles.

What I wish was different

The only thing that I would consider doing differently is going earlier in the summer, because the timing was a little weird in my summer.

Advice

My advice would to be to go into the internship with an open mind! You will get the most out of it if you are willing to do or try anything!

General Intern

What I liked

This was an incredible experience! My favorite part was the rich cultural experiences I was exposed to. I had the opportunity to live in an intercultural house with local Dominicans. This was an eye opening and humbling experience for me. Aside from that service was a main theme for my summer. I had so many opportunities to serve Americans, Dominicans, Haitians, kids, adult, and even my peers. Anyone considering this internship should follow through one this once in a lifetime opportunity.

What I wish was different

Not much. Obviously there are many challenges of being in a new setting and being away from the comforts of home. The ability to get outside your comfort zone is one of the main reasons I would recommend being an intern.

Advice

One piece of advice if you are worried about spending your summer in the Dominican Republic is that the internship doesn't take the full summer. I had plenty of time to relax, spend time with family, and even have a part time job while I was in the States. This opportunity is an extremely good way to spend your Sumer, be challenged, and ultimately grow spiritually and as a leader.
