Geography Research Intern
September - December 2019 • Rarotonga Muri, Rarotonga
What I liked
This internship was absolutely incredible. I met a lot of great people and gained a lot of experience in my field. Through this internship I have learned a lot about data collection, plant and wildlife species, island geography, marine life, different cultures, and professional writing. Being given the opportunity to take part in this internship has really helped me understand my specific passions within my major and what it is that I would like to do after graduation.
What I wish was different
I personally do not have any complaints about this internship and would definitely recommend everyone to seek out an opportunity at Global Treks & Adventures!
Advice
Don't wait to apply! Global Treks & Adventures has so many awesome opportunities and are extremely wonderful to work with. Any internship opportunity that you choose to apply for will offer amazing adventures and experiences that I'm sure you will not regret.

Travel Intern
May - September 2019 • Reykjavík, Iceland
What I liked
I was able to travel abroad to a new place with a new culture. I got to make friends with my team as we shared experiences. By the end I had professional experience in research, interviews, publication writing, and the publication process.
What I wish was different
I wish they had paid more attention to what people were assigned to write about. Some people were writing about culture but were originally told to hike everyday.
Advice
It's absolutely worth it. If you decide to go, check out all scholarship options and maybe try using GoFundMe.

Research Intern
May - September 2018 • Reykjavík, Iceland
What I liked
I loved being able to use the anthropological/ethnographic methods that I had taken classes for. It was nice to have both the freedom to take the initiative to create my own project and conduct my own research, but enough structure so that I had direction. It was great to be immersed in a different culture (different to my own) so as to better understand how to put cultural competency, ethics, and anthropological techniques into practice.
What I wish was different
I wish we spent more time in the research abroad phase!
Advice
This is a great experience for students who have skills under their belts and want a gentle nudge into the world of research. I would recommend it to upperclassmen who have had a significant amount of in-classroom experience but not too much outside of the classroom.

Research Expedition Intern
July - August 2018 • Reykjavík, Reykjavík
What I liked
Amazing, relevant experience in fields I want to work in and in an incredible environment. Global Treks has a great team of passionate and knowledgeable people.
What I wish was different
Getting to Iceland was expensive and the on site experience didn't last long enough. At times it felt more like a school trip than a job.
Advice
Be ready to learn a lot in a short amount of time, don't expect a solid itinerary, and be ready to work hard once you return home.
