What I liked

I was able to see how a medical lab ran while getting to interact and get to know patients. I greeted patients and walked them or assisted them to the lab, and then transported specimen to the lab or wherever it needed to go. I liked working with the Phlebotomists, seeing their role, and experiencing medical care in person.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more patient care experience, but you can only do so much as a volunteer. Otherwise, I wish I got more hours to get to know patients even more.

Advice

One may be hesitant to volunteer because they think they don't have time or need a paid position, but volunteering is so rewarding. The patients really appreciated it, and I loved being there. I enjoyed volunteering more than my normal summer job.
