Camp Counselor

May - July 2021 • Luthersville, GA

What I liked

I loved knowing that my work mattered to our campers. This job was a great opportunity to escape the school environment and spend a summer in nature with women. I gained leadership skills, met incredible friends, and had the lovely opportunity to teach younger people and learn new skills myself.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more opportunity for professional development and realistic workplace training for the kind of environment a camp provides.

Advice

Only take this job if you have a true passion for encouraging and supporting young women!

Camp Counselor

May - July 2019 • Luthersville, GA

What I liked

-working with coworkers and making friends. -guiding young girls and facilitating fun activities. -experiencing activities along with campers ie. horseriding

What I wish was different

organization of activities. poor scheduling. low pay rate.

Advice

Being a camp counselor was fun but it important to find a job that really suits you. I enjoyed working with kids but found it stressful to do so with such disorganized management Which can make it much harder to do your job well.

Camp Counselor

June 2019 • Mableton, GA

What I liked

I enjoyed the ability to use my skills and creativity to teach younger girls how to excel in the STEM field. The camp focuses primarily on technology, the freedom to perform, and outdoor adventure which is what every girl should have the experience to do. The management did a fantastic job preparing us on how to be great role models for the girls and how to encourage one another to be great every day.

What I wish was different

Everything I experienced here has made me into the person I am today. I learned how to be flexible when thunderstorms roll in unexpectedly, I learned how to manage large groups of children in stressful environments, and I learned how to effectively communicate with others to solve a problem.

Advice

You have to roll with the punches. Every day is different and you can't stress out when there are sudden changes to a plan. If you want to grow as an employee, as a person, or as a role model to others then this is the job for you!
