GDOT allowed the interns to rotate among all of the offices, allowing interns to get experience over a wide range of areas.
What I wish was different
I did a lot of observing and not as much hands-on type of experience.

Communications Intern
May - August 2018 • Atlanta, GA
What I liked
I made a lot of great connections and I was able to meet a lot of big names (like the governor of GA and the U.S. Secretary of Transportation). I also got an inside look at how big government agencies operate. I was able to see things happen onsite, like a controlled bombing of an expressway and look inside the Georgia 511 operations center.
What I wish was different
Since I was only interning, there were lots of instances where I didn't have any actual assignments and I spent the majority of the day watching my supervisor or simply monitoring social media, which got boring after awhile and I felt like I wasn't contributing anything.
Advice
Don't expect to be doing super exciting things everyday, be okay with learning simply from being in the atmosphere and taking in your surroundings.
