Data Analyst Intern

May - August 2019 • Fort Myers, FL

What I liked

My time as an internal data analyst intern (if you search online, Business Associate is the official title Gartner uses for the position) at Gartner was an amazing experience. I had the ability to work on big internal projects, to collaborate with people from around the world, and finally, to present a comprehensive, analytics-backed proposal to several VPs at the end of the summer. The degree of autonomy with which we were allowed to develop our projects, as well as the excellent support and feedback structure, would make this a great position for any technical, data-savvy individual.

What I wish was different

Summers in Fort Myers, FL are brutal, especially if you're from New York! Also, the city itself is still growing, but isn't nearly as big as say, Tampa or Miami.

Advice

I would recommend preparing extremely well for the interviews. The position is highly competitive, and most of the accepted applicants are from Ivy League schools.

Global Technology Sales Intern

May - August 2019 • Fort Myers, FL

What I liked

I really enjoyed getting the opportunity to experience what it is like to manage and grow a book of business worth over $500,000.

What I wish was different

I wish that it wouldn’t have rained so much! Florida in the summer is very rainy!

Advice

Go into it ready to learn! I had no idea how much I learned until I came back to school in the fall. Such an incredible experience full of personal and professional growth!

Business Development

May - August 2019 • Fort Myers, FL

What I liked

Being with a lot of other interns from all across the country, being close to so many beaches, paid housing, new office space, being the only intern on my team

What I wish was different

Would have liked the company to be more transparent (ex: completely changed the internship program after I accepted and did not tell me until the week before), could have used more organization, metrics were very high in this position, not paid if you work more than 40 hours a week even though the metrics for business development required more than that, would have liked more structure and support, more honestly and feedback from management would have been ideal

Advice

Make sure you are very clear on what you are going to be doing and if you accept here make sure they keep you updated if they change things, if you are being accepted for an account management role understand that you will be doing paperwork rather than setting new meetings, if you know you want to work with Gartner full time you will be ahead because so much of the internship is Gartner specific training, the Gartner brand can open doors for other major technology companies!

What I liked

The people at Gartner are what makes this job fantastic. It was a great learning experience which will really prepare you for a job in sales.

What I wish was different

Could have been a bit more organized, training was excessively long with some redundancies

Advice

Make sure you dive into your internship from day one. Success is less about talent or skill and much more about dedication and showing how much effort you can put in.

Sales Intern

May - August 2019 • Fort Myers, FL

What I liked

I loved the company! I was working in a newly built office, so everything was very new and modern. They also really care about their employees and offer amazing benefits. We also had housing provided at a local university, and we got to live on a beach!

What I wish was different

Everything was great, but there was some misalignment with the work we thought we would do vs. the work we actually did because the company's entire business model changed.

Advice

Network with as many people as you can, including other interns, employees, the trainers, and more. Everyone has so much knowledge to share and is super willing to help.

What I liked

I loved the culture and the overall experience I had this summer. Being in Fort Myers is ideal enough, but the culture at Gartner is unlike no other. Everyone is there to help you succeed and grow into the young professional we all dream of being.

What I wish was different

Honestly, I do not wish anything had been different. I thought the length, location, and everything else about this internship was absolutely amazing.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about my experience is to be yourself when working at Gartner. Everyone is there to support you and help you grow in whichever career path you decide to take within the company.

Sales Territory Planning Intern

June - August 2017 • Stamford, CT

What I liked

I had ownership over a project that I was able to work on from start to finish.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more of a community of interns; while there were other interns at the company, the company did not do a good job of bringing us together, so I didn't meet anyone.

Advice

Make sure that your project is one with high impact that you can discuss in future interviews.

May - August 2018 • Fort Myers, FL

What I liked

The highly competitive and intellectually enriching environment with great opportunities for advancement and recognition

What I wish was different

I felt alienated as the only HBCU student in a class of over 140 interns and the surrounding area mimicked this lack of diversity

Advice

Study hard to make sure you understand everything to perform your job as best as you can, but more than that listen be coachable and apply the feedback you are given

Global Event Production Intern

research analyst

July 2018 • Arlington, VA

What I liked

Gartner allows employees to gain a lot of knowledge quickly through their on boarding plan. By serving a group of clients, rather than just one client, Gartner provides experience and exposure that would take years to generate at a typical management consulting firm.

What I wish was different

Some times the job can lack guidance and you need to manage your manager. This, however, can be very common in most consulting jobs. Make sure to ask lots of questions and/or ask for clarification on your role.

Advice

Make sure to apply yourself to every aspect of the job and ask clarifying questions. These two steps allow you to gain a lot more out of the job.
