The Gadsden Arts Center and Museum is dedicated to improving quality of life for residents and visitors in the region through visual art, interdisciplinary cultural events, art education and outreach programs. Visual art exhibitions range from national scope, historically and culturally important content, to exhibitions of work by artists who are masters of their medium, to local and regional contemporary art. Art education programs include broad ranging studio art programs for children and beginners through seniors and professional artists; and diverse interpretive programs for children through seniors, beginners through highly educated and experienced art lovers. Cultural events are offered free and open to the public and include exhibition receptions, community festivals, artists' and curators' talks, panel discussions, and one mission-based gala fundraiser each year. Gadsden Arts is also a collecting organization, managing a growing Permanent Collection of Southeastern Contemporary American Art.
