Who We Are
Friends of the Homeless, Inc. operates the largest emergency shelter for adult individuals in Western Massachusetts providing services aimed at ending homelessness. We are a private, non-profit 501(C)3 organization established over twenty-five years ago to serve Greater Springfield. FOH recognizes that the need is great, not only in our city, but around the state. That is why we believe everyone shares an interest in solving the problem of homelessness. In addition to providing emergency shelter for adult men and women, we also own and operate a resource center and manage 110 low income housing units on our Worthington Street campus in Springfield. All FOH shelter and housing is supported by case management aimed at obtaining and maintaining permanent housing. As of December 1, 2016, we are a proud partner and program of Clinical and Support Options, Inc. This merger allows us to increase the program capacity of clinical services right on campus at FOH, and further enhances our ability to meet the needs of each guest.
Our Mission
Friends of the Homeless, Inc. is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is committed to assisting people who are homeless. We strive to bring dignity to people’s lives during their difficult journey from homelessness to stability and independence. We believe that every person deserves a place to call HOME. What we’re not interested in is allowing people to be warehoused.
Founded in 1988, Friends of the Homeless, Inc. owns and operates properties at 755, 769 and 501-503 Worthington Street. FOH provides emergency overnight and day shelter, housing and support services for hundreds of men and women each year. We also advocate for public and private resources to end local and regional homelessness.
