School Highlights

Franklin Elementary School is one of the oldest and largest elementary schools in the Santa Barbara Elementary School District.

For a four-year period Franklin operated as two separate schools: Franklin Primary School and Franklin Intermediate School. Then, in school year 2000-2001, as part of a reorganization plan, Franklin changed its operational format to that of a single school. The change was part of a planning process that began in 1999-2000. The Franklin 2000 Plan had two major goals: to identify specific strategies for improving student achievement and to plan for the reunification of Franklin as a K-6 school. Following are key changes in the academic program: utilize Open Court grade level intervention kits (grades 3-6) and McMillan supplemental phonics program (grades 4-6); pilot 45-minute performance-based language arts rotations in grade 4; implement Accelerated Reader Program schoolwide; employ two Title I-funded resource teachers to provide reading and newcomer support for students in grades 1-6.

Beginning school year 2000-2001, Franklin implemented a mandatory school uniform program for all students in grades K-6."

“I loved working on a collaborative team of other teachers. I was the youngest TA, and I was given a lot of support and ideas for my future classroom.”
