Foresters Financial Services, Inc.

Financial Services Intern

January - April 2019 • Sunrise, FL

What I liked

Working at Foresters Financial Services I learned a lot about the financial services industry. Foresters gives you a real world experience and helps you understand different finance terminology and apply it to actual real world finance situations. An Intern at Foresters gets to work alongside other interns analyzing different investment case study scenarios. Interns here are happily tasked to learn and NOT used to scan papers, make phone calls, file, or retrieve coffee. A lot of positive and open dialogue between other interns, secretaries, advisors, and executives.

Financial Representative Intern

June - July 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The people in the branch; they were friendly, helpful, and relatable. The lessons on how to approach clients, explaining different products (life insurances, investments, retirement plans), in general just learning the different products, how to use their technology for financial planning- I definitely learned so much in 2 months. Being part of their corporate meetings was really informative as well!

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was longer and that we would go see how advisors handle a client one-on-one.

Advice

Definitely apply to this internship, the branch is great, you learn so much, and you are invited to their Yankee Games and BBQs.

What I liked

It was unpaid but being one day a week it was cool. I liked that I was in the office, talking to employees and gaining a more business view of the financial industry. I learned way more than I could’ve in any classroom.

What I wish was different

Maybe some kind of event, like a trip to the headquarters, or a booze cruise, or sky diving.

Advice

Do not fear the unpaid internship just do ya research and make it work.

Financial Representative Intern

June - August 2018 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

I liked that we were assigned a mock client case to apply our new found knowledge of the Financial services sector. After completing the mock client project I felt that I really had the capability to provide reccommendations to help someone reach their financial goals. I also really liked that we were able to assist current Financial Represenattaives with their cases by adding suggestions, asking questions, and providing our own personal insight.

What I wish was different

I wish we had more real-world experience, speaking with real people about their goals and how they wish to reach them. It would have also been nice if we could have practiced meeting with clients (real or not real) in the office to really know what its like talking to someone about their money.

Advice

My advice would be to absorb every peice of informtaion one possibly can because there are a lot of moving parts that go into planning ones financial future. Take notes often and attempt to map our your own financial future as a way to help create reccommendations that would be helpful.
