Neuroscience Research Assistant

June 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved working in a lab at Fordham because I got to be very involved in the research project. The lab is small, so we got to know each other well! I also got experience presenting research in various settings.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more structure to the lab schedule, which I learned you can't always have in research!

Advice

I would say having a research experience is always a positive, even if you don't "like" research. Have patience for yourself and your team, and appreciate the experience. A lot of the skills can be transferred to other settings.

Biology Research Intern

May - August 2019 • Armonk, NY

What I liked

I enjoyed the flexibility I had in my schedule. I was able to work independently, although fellow undergraduate researchers, graduate and PhD students, as well as professors were available to help me with whatever I was working on in the lab.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to fully explore my research topic. It was time consuming work, so I had to work long days to get everything done in time.

Advice

I would recommend talking with the people you share the lab with about their experiences in research and how they're advancing their career from there.
