First American

Team Lead

August 2015 • Idaho Falls, ID

What I liked

Great vibe from supervisors and managers. Always given chances to expand using my unique skill set to speed up processes or fix problems.

What I wish was different

That I had been offered programmer pay for essentially writing programs for almost every department.

Advice

Avoid doing something that requires a degree as you will continue to do it, but without being paid for the knowledge you have unless you agreed upon it upfront.

Business Operations Intern

May - August 2019 • Rancho Cucamonga, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed the team that I was able to work with, including my boss, who provided intentional opportunities for me to learn new skills and pursue my interests. I also was able to work from the remote Rancho office, since most of the team works from home which was a very different experience that I thought it would be like.

What I wish was different

At times I wish my boss was nearby so I could ask her more questions face to face or that I could spend more time getting to know my team. But overall, I learned how to be more independent and to take initiative on things.

Advice

I would highly recommend First American Title, the company has a very employee focused attitude, with kind coworkers. We had weekly events with free food, games, or relaxed dress code to match the season. Also, First American is in the Fortune 100 best places to work and as Fortune's best place to work as a woman.

Application Security Intern

June - September 2018 • Santa Ana, CA

What I liked

The internship program at First American provided the interns with different presentations of what different parts of the company did and exposed us to positions in the company that I personally never knew of. I liked these presentations because I had the opportunity to learn new things, which is the whole point of an internship.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more projects to work on. My manager gave me a good amount of projects but whenever I asked for more, they just didn't have anything for me to work on.
