Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta

Panel Coordinator

May 2021 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

The position was remote and very flexible in terms of scheduling. The work environment was supportive and not overbearing -- as long as you fulfilled your responsibilities and produced results, you had lots of flexibility. I was able to connect with a lot of economists and other people within the Federal Reserve System. I also got to listen in on FOMC briefings and hear economists discuss different monetary policy responses.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more research opportunity for me. I hope to leverage this position to find another research internship within the Federal Reserve System.

Advice

It is up to you to make the most of this internship! From exclusive connections to resume advice and predoc application advice to Salesforce or LinkedinLearning development, the program offers a lot of resources for interns to explore their interests.

Supervision, Regulation & Credit Intern

May - August 2019 • Miami, FL

What I liked

Incredible exposure to the world of financial and banking regulation. Excellent corporate culture. Extremely friendly and helpful employees. Comprehensive and rotational intern learning opportunities. Travel emphasized.

What I wish was different

Nothing.

Advice

Firstly, I would recommend to all sophomores to get started on the summer internship recruiting process as early as possible. Doing this placed me in an excellent position to secure this internship. Secondly, being extremely hardworking and open to all opportunities while on the job is a great way to be respected and trusted with important work while interning. Network with every individual you can as they can offer unique advice regarding the job, careers, and general life suggestions. Finally, offer your gratitude for every opportunity extended to you. No one is forced to help out a college student in their pursuit of career experience, so when an opportunity does arise, be extremely thankful for what you have been offered.

Research Intern

May 2019 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I learned a lot about what it means to do economic research. This internship was like a crash course in learning STATA. It was also really cool to work at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's Research Department because they frequently had lunches where we got to hear real economists present about their research.

Advice

Get to know the people in the department. They are a great resource to ask about advice in figuring out what classes to take and what parts of economic research you are interested in.

What I liked

This was an incredible experience and I have never learned so much from an experience. The culture felt right, and I could definitely see myself working there some day.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have worked there for longer.

Have an open mind and make the most of the experience. The most valuable things I learned came from beyond the job description. Fully engage yourself in the internship and you will gain so many useful skills.
