Instructor

July - August 2017 • Fairfax, VA

What I liked

I really enjoyed teaching children my favorite subjects and getting to guide them through understanding how the world works. Hearing my students talk about how much they now love the subject because I make the subject interesting was extremely rewarding. It was also a great opportunity to empower young girls to pursue the STEM fields.

What I wish was different

The organization of the company is often hectic at best. There are 3 people running the entire operation, and they are often spread too thin to have everything run smoothly. Getting class materials late and having incomplete curricula were frequent challenges and caused a lot of stress over the entire course of the summer.

Advice

This job can be rewarding but it can also be exhausting. Also realize that it will not supplement your education so much as give you and opportunity to apply it to teaching the next generation.
