Fair Chance

Pathways Program Associate

August 2021 • Washington, DC

What I liked

Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They understood it was my first professional experience and took the time to explain jargon and go through processes I was unfamiliar with.

What I wish was different

The position was virtual because of COVID so I really only interacted with my supervisor and two other staff members, I look forward to experiencing more normal office culture.

Advice

Don't be afraid to apply (or continue the application process)! I got freaked out by the length of the application process, thinking I was unfit since I had little experience. The position ended up being challenging but I learned a lot and it was the perfect fit for what I was looking for!

Outreach Specialist

October 2019 - May 2020 • Washington, DC

What I liked

This is a great internship - the staff is encouraging and supportive and you will learn a lot! It was a work-study position and there is a possibility of being asked to return year after year until you graduate.

Advice

Say YES. There are many opportunities to get involved in tasks that aren't strictly related to your original position. Do not be afraid that you aren't qualified or that you don't know what you're doing - say yes anyway and you will learn so much.
