EY LLP

Auditor Intern

June - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I loved how everyone was very welcoming and was eager to help me get situated into the company. Everyone was willing to talk about their positions and help me learn more about the company.

What I wish was different

I wish I had worked in bigger teams with more interns and employees. My engagement was rather small which was not what I was expecting.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to ask questions and go outside of your comfort zone.

Assurance Services Intern

June - August 2019 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed the opportunity to work with five different audit teams to audit publicly traded companies. I learned a lot about procedures done by auditors to give an opinion on financial statements that are filed with the SEC. As a part of these procedures, I analyzed Significant Class of Transactions (SCOTs) and documented our test of controls. I appreciated how kind team members were to answer my many questions and teach me how to do certain tasks and procedures. They many a times went above and beyond to explain the bigger picture and made sure I knew how I was adding to the bigger picture of the overall audit.

What I wish was different

On some teams, although members were kind, they weren't trusting of interns with slightly more complex work. So instead, they would give us basic administrative tasks, and often we would have nothing to do other than complete more training modules.

Advice

The doors this opportunity opens for your career are countless! Make every use of the opportunity you have to network with different teams and learn from them. Don't be afraid questions, but ask questions at the right time and group them so as to not constantly bother team members. Ultimately, be ready to do everything you are assigned joyfully and enthusiastically with your whole heart. If you are personable and produce quality work, you will be appreciated for your work.

Transfer pricing intern

June - August 2018 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I liked getting to experience the accounting community at one of the big 4. I got to do real work in a team and contribute the valuable skills I learned at the UW classrooms.

What I wish was different

I wish they offered me a bus pass for the summer.

Advice

Come ready to absorb all the wonderful things the company can offer, and also be ready to show off the skills you learned!

Forensic and Integrity Services Intern

June - August 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I really loved the people and the forensic work that I was doing. I was able to travel every week for my engagements, and EY was extremely accommodating and helpful when it came to this process.

What I wish was different

I wish that I wouldn’t have had to go to DC in order to take the position if I was going to be traveling regardless; however, I really enjoyed the experience either way. Also, I wish there was more negotiations available to interns for their full time offers.

Advice

My biggest piece of advice is to network like crazy, and to never be afraid to ask for help. EY is hiring based off of personality not technical skills. Make sure that you’re putting your real self out there because people always love that the most. They teach you everything else.

Transaction Advisory Services Intern

June - August 2019 • Seoul, South Korea

What I liked

I liked the fact that all the projects were done through teamwork and allowed to me realize I prefer an environment where teamwork is a vital part of success.

What I wish was different

I do wish that my internship was in an environment where I would be working full time since the working environment in Korea was very different. However, I do think was a valuable experience to learn about different working cultures.

Advice

No one should ever be afraid to ask questions when they are stuck or struggling with a task. Employees enjoy interns asking questions and it will improve your skills drastically and faster than ever.

Assurance Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I had the opportunity to participate in a variety of firm events such as community service, presentations from firm leadership, and an international intern conference in Disney World.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to spend more time with other interns, but I enjoyed getting to know the other people on my team.

Advice

When you have questions on a project, do as much work as you can without asking the question, compile all of your questions in a list, and then ask them all at once. This mitigates the amount of times you will need to ask for help, and your organization will greatly benefit your team.

Tax Intern Financial Services

June - August 2019 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

I loved the entire experience, I loved starting the job training in Dallas, Texas and ending the internship with a trip to Orlando, Florida. Although there was a lot of hard work between these trips and I was very overwhelmed at first, everyone on my engagements was very helpful teaching me the job and very patient if I was wrong as long as I tried my best everyday.

What I wish was different

I wish I was closer to my job, I ended up commuting over an hour to get to work each day from outside of West Chester. Other than that the interview process was very stressful but entirely worth it in the end.

Advice

Although you may feel you are struggling or not doing good enough, as long as you put in your best effort everyday, the teams will notice and help you through.
