Tax Intern

January - April 2019 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

I loved everything about this position from start to finish! I was actually looking forward to coming to work everyday and helping the tax accountant with her many duties. I even invented a code in Excel VBA which saved her 18 hours of work on general ledger reconiliations every month! I loved how much this simple (yet complex) code really made a different in my supervisor’s workload and I enjoyed the company lunch I was rewarded with!

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish was different was that I worked for this amazing company longer than 3 and 1/2 months. I might have been able to learn even more from them and really see how tax accounting works. Other than that, absolulely nothing!!

Advice

Keep your heart and mind open to opportunites to use your own skills and talents to help your coworkers. If you notice a problem like your coworker staying at work late to finish work or a huge pile of papers on their desk that all have deadlines to complete, be open to thoughts and ideas that come to you and ACT on them. Don’t let past failures determine whether or not you can do it. Just try!
