Dollarcity

International Trade Intern

May - July 2023 • San Salvador, San Salvador

What I liked

The company's uniquely human approach to operations immediately stood out to me, and I was impressed by the team's unwavering helpfulness and support. One of the most rewarding aspects was the chance to engage internationally at an intern level, collaborating with people from Peru, Panama, and Colombia. This exposure significantly helped me develop my problem-solving and adaptability skills as I navigated various tasks and projects. I also gained valuable insights into Peruvian customs and practices, expanding my knowledge of exports and imports.

What I wish was different

I would have wished that there was a more constant way to communicate with my manager. She travelled a lot, and as an amateur in this area, I would have appreciated more active guidance throughout the development of the project.

Advice

Asking questions is key. One has to really understand what they are doing. It is far better to ask a "dumb" question rather than make a decision blindsided and get the whole purpose of the project to go wrong.
