CSUDH - Modern Languages

About CSUDH - Modern Languages

The academic mission of the Department Modern Languages is to contribute to the Liberal Arts education of its students through the study of the language, literature, history, and culture of the people of Spain and Latin America, including the Latinos (mainly Chicano) in the United States. It offers a major, a minor, and a subject matter program in Spanish as well as classes in French and Japanese. The department seeks to prepare its graduates for lives of accomplishments by helping them develop necessary communication skills (reading speaking, and writing) and basic knowledge of the field of Spanish. Many Spanish majors go on to become elementary or high school teachers.
