Clocky LLC

Intern

May - August 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Working from home, easy tasks, not much else

What I wish was different

Gauri Nanda is the most unprofessional and curt employer I've ever had. During our skype call, she was off camera the whole time and did not ask many questions. She claimed there would be valuable mentorship and leadership opportunities with her, what a joke! All communications were over asana/slack with last minute projects that popped up after 5 pm or late at night. Her assistant was passive aggressive and unhelpful at all times. Stay away, you'd be better off working in retail/food for a salary. I did not use any of the projects in my portfolio. Waste of time.

Advice

Toymail is out of business and it's because of Gauri's lackluster leadership skills. This company is a parasite that relys heavily on a revolving door of unpaid interns, some of whom were lied to about having a salary.

Animation/Video Intern

June - August 2021 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I was able to explore my independence as a creator while being under the guidance of a branding guideline and creative tasks.

What I wish was different

I would have loved to collaborate more with employees at the company, as well as other interns. Remote work in this role specifically made me feel isolated in my workspace because collaboration wasn't catered to as much as I'm used to.

Advice

You need to be self-motivated - as long as you can be driven by your own work ethic, you'll be successful, and that's a great skill to have.

3D Artist

February - May 2021 • New York, NY

What I liked

The people over at Clocky are very supportive, helpful and communicate very well what they need for tasks. Generally speaking in my experience working with Gauri on 3D designs felt very relaxed and professional with lots of feedback. Overall, my time at Clocky was very pleasant and a great environment for working remotely. Highly recommend!

What I wish was different

The only con I think was the lack of not working with other artist interns directly. Realistically it makes sense though as several design positions may be focused on certain tasks and it could cause confusion in the workspace.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions and communicate to provide the best work. As an intern take the experience you get and learn from it to be better down the line. Being open to ideas and feedback is important to grow in any position.

Motion Graphic Intern

August - September 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I liked the tasks I was given. I worked on a few motion graphic pieces which is what I wanted to get out of it.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have got paid or received college credit from it.

Advice

At first when joining Clocky, I was offered a great experience in exchange for college credit, even though it was unpaid. So I read through the contract and agreed to the terms. Upon getting work on different tasks, I told my professor about the job and she took a look at the contract I has signed. One thing in it I thought was for sure actually turned out to be wrong. They were offering college credit when it wasn't their position to do so. I ended up going through a whole ordeal to get out of the contract, and wasted time and energy doing so. Only good thing to come out of it was that I did get some work experience to put on my resume. Long story short, make sure you read through a contract thoroughly, and ask a professor, your advisor, or career counselor before signing. You never know what you could get yourself into.

Remote Design Intern

May - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Clocky allows you to create your own schedule and provides a lot of flexibility with hours. The projects were fun and engaging, and the CEO was appreciative of your contributions. Someone will usually be available quickly and at any time of the day to offer assistance, which is very helpful when working remote. Time off requests were easy to arrange and usually always accepted.

What I wish was different

Wish I had more opportunities to network with interns or employees. Might be helpful for future design interns to collaborate with a design/marketing team member for assistance and advice regarding design-related tasks. Certain projects often required my assistance outside of my scheduled working hours, which was difficult to manage. I feel as though a more flexible schedule was required than what I could provide, resulting in some stress from both ends.

Advice

Be proactive and don't be afraid to remind other employees about your projects! Additionally, this position would be best suited to a student with a very flexible schedule who should expect to lend a hand outside of scheduled hours when needed.
