Head Lifeguard

What I liked
I love my job! It allows me to utilize my EMT skills to a much more basic extent than on an ambulance, so I can really solidify the foundation and improve my quality of care on the scene of a bigger emergency. Plus I get paid to drive a jetski around.
What I wish was different
The management isn't great right now; we got a new manager this summer and she struggled to integrate well into the team and lead us well.
Advice
It's a great job for undergraduates who need some money and an awesome experience but aren't really building into a career or doing summer programs centered around their major yet. When else will you have the opportunity to make money driving boats around??

Digital Storytelling Intern
May - July 2019 • Boulder, CO
What I liked
This internship was the best experience I've had in my early professional career. I especially appreciated my mentors. They taught me so many valuable skills - both technical and professional - that I've already put to use in my classes this year. I feel more prepared for the workforce because of their dedication to my growth. Working in government was new for me but something I truly enjoyed because I felt like I had a role to play in helping members of the community. I hope to continue working in government in the future!
What I wish was different
I wish I could have interacted with people my own age! Being the youngest one in the office was definitely a challenge.
Advice
Challenge yourself! I took on my own project, which was a bit scary - but I wanted to do something big try something new. And it worked! I led a campaign about responsible recreation in the outdoors which included a video about a local search and rescue team. The video because the most watched video of the year for my organization!
